Ferry Fraud Fight

by Msecadm4921

Retail Decisions (ReD) has won a contract with ferry operator Brittany Ferries to provide payment card fraud protection services

Retail Decisions (ReD) has won a contract with ferry operator Brittany Ferries to provide payment card fraud protection services for shoppers in their on-board duty free shops. Using Retail Decisions? hot card service, Brittany Ferries will be able to check the transactions made aboard all their ships for fraud. Since the abolition of duty free limits on purchases brought back into the UK, Brittany Ferries have seen more shoppers making large purchases on board to bring back to the UK. This increase in shopping volumes has also seen an increase in fraud. As the sole collator of the UK banking industry?s hot card file, ReD is well placed to combat payment card fraud for the ferry firm. The file contains millions of records of lost, stolen and delinquent cards. It is continually updated (on average by 30,000 new records each day). Graham Harrison, Company Accountant UK and Ireland of Brittany Ferries said: ?We quickly noticed a trend in the type of fraud that was being attempted and realised that we needed a fast and efficient service to crack down on this. With ReD as the sole collators of the Hot Card File they were the obvious choice to help with this challenge. We can now help protect our clients, even when we are in foreign waters.? Carl Clump, CEO of Retail Decisions said: ?The travel sector is now finding more and more that they are a target for payment card fraud. We are delighted to have been chosen by Brittany Ferries to work with them in their crack down on crime. We are seeing increasingly ingenious methods being deployed by the fraudsters and continue to develop our systems to help uncover them.? ReD has secured a further two year contract with household name, Safeway, in a move to continue protecting its customers and the company from the threat of payment card fraud. Safeway with nearly 480 stores nationwide first partnered with ReD in 1999 (then known as the Card Clear Group), when the supermarket realised that payment card fraud was increasing rapidly. Safeway appointed ReD to deliver Card Express, a service that tracks each transaction made in store against the hot card file. Simon Lane, director of corporate finance for Safeway said: ?ReD have provided us with excellent service during the past two years and we look forward to developing our relationship with them. As a leading supermarket, we realise it is imperative our customers trust us to protect them from credit card fraud. Our partnership with ReD is a key part of our fraud prevention program and with them we continue to beat fraudsters at their own game.?
