The number of delegates attending the BFPSA fire training courses sponsored by Gardiner Security has exceeded expectations, the distributor reports.
The firm says that more delegates passing between January and July 2005 than the whole of 2004.
Gardiner adds that sponsorship is set to continue throughout the country via hotel venues with conference facilities. A full programme of training is set for the remainder of 2005 in locations from Glasgow to Exeter. The fire alarm training courses on offer include UNIT 1 – Fire Detection Design, UNIT 4 – Installation and Testing and UNIT 5 – Maintenance. What they say
"Companies are becoming more aware of the advantages of being accredited to 3rd party schemes such as BAFE SP203. These schemes are intended to raise quality standards within the fire alarm industry," says BFPSA training officer Trevor Boxer. "Inspectors auditing to a scheme examine installed systems on a regular basis, and if the engineers are trained and work to the methods explained in the training courses, then the audit inspections should proceed smoothly."
"When fire alarm systems are connected to an Alarm Receiving Centre, brigades will require the system to be designed, installed and maintained by a BAFE registered firm. This helps reduce the number of false alarms as the installer works to the recommendations of BS 5839 part 1 and follows the correct procedures when designing, installing and commissioning the system," he says.
"When it comes to maintaining the system, the service engineer may be able to advise the user on how to reduce unwanted alarms initiated by management and builders working on-site, especially when common instigators of false alarms include cooking appliances situated in close proximity to smoke detectors and excess dust from decorating and building maintenance."
The BFPSA is a trade association in the fire protection industry.
