As featured in recent print issues of the magazine, the Road Haulage Association is holding another security seminar, ‘driving down freight crime’.
Past seminars have seen members of the road haulage industry criticise police for not doing enough. Judging from the list of speakers, police on November 9 at Villa Park, Birmingham, may be able to point to much work and some successes in tackling theft of and from lorries.
Speakers include Mark Hooper of Metropolitan Police on the TruckPol industry partnership; Mark Schwarz, of Eurowatch, on security and client requirements; David Elbourne, of Transec at the Department for Transport, on security of dangerous goods on roads; and Tony Allen, National Security Manager for logistics firm DHL Freight.
The RHA says the keynote speak is senior West Midlands Police officer Stuart Hyde, on cross border lorry crime, including the launch of a video. Other police speakers will report on police operations. Murdo McDonald, MD of Nightowl truck stops and Andy Smith of Staffordshire Police will report on their award-winning partnership against crime at the motorway stops. Richard Scott, chairman of the Crimestoppers board, will outline the good that the 0800 confidential crime-reporting line does and can do. Event compere is again TV presenter Quentin Willson; the day’s sponsors are DHL Frieght, and Royal & Sun Alliance and Tracker. There are exhibitors of anti-lorry crime products.
