Game Media Secured

by Msecadm4921

Book, movie and music retailer Borders has hailed the Red Tag DVD and game media security device as a success.

Designed by AGI Amaray and distributed by security firm MacLellan Attlaw Security, Red Tag has had a significant impact on reducing DVD theft in Borders’ UK stores, it is claimed.

As a member of the Multimedia Loss Prevention Consortium (MMPLC), Borders agreed to field-trial the new system. Two years later, Red Tag is used in all their UK stores, facilitating live merchandising of high-risk product, which leads to increased sales.

What they say

Geoffrey Northcott, Head of Loss Prevention at Borders, says: “Borders has invested heavily in Red Tag technology; it is a simple product which is easy for staff to use at distribution and store level, and it has assisted in controlling theft of a high risk product like DVD. We recently conducted a survey on arrests and recoveries by our security teams, and found that in a four-week period, only 2pc of the DVDs recovered in arrests were Red Tagged. Our conclusion that Red Tag is an active deterrent was later confirmed in interviews with detained thieves – they claimed the presence of a Red Tag severely affected the benefit of an onward sale.”

Removed at the checkout, the tag holds the entertainment disk in place in the packaging, and acts as a visible deterrent to potential thieves, according to the makers. MacLellan Attlaw Security, as sole distributor, adds that it can offer an email ordering service, which will provide next day delivery, and a full installation service if required.
