The Summer 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, hailed as a success, were also free of terrorist incident. Here’s why.
The Summer 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, hailed as a success, were also free of terrorist incident, despite record numbers of people using Kingsford Smith international terminal during the year. During the Olympic peak, some 45,000 international passengers were processed in a day. Airport security was driven by Honeywell technology, with Honeywell Digital Video Manager providing video surveillance with full integration with Honeywell Enterprise Buildings Integrator (EBI) installed at the site since 1999. From the airport, many visitors went into the city by a new rail link. On that infrastructure project, Honeywell provided the link to the central control and monitoring station, which provides control and monitoring for the rail system?s security, fire protection, ventilation, emergency warning, CCTV and lighting. Stadium Australia, at Homebush, the centre of the Olympic facilities and since Sydney?s major sporting venue, has a Honeywell security system integrated with camera functions to provide surveillance and general and lift access control. Near Stadium Australia is the indoor Sydney SuperDome, which features one of the first Enterprise Buildings Integrator (EBI) installations in Australia. It covers lift access control, general access control, security monitoring including door alarms, panic alarms and duress calls all monitored via CCTV inside the complex.
