Scorpion Power Systems, has partnered an engineering and technology company, Emerson Network Power, in the installation of a power support package for GMAC Commercial Financeโs site in Brighton.
Comprising of a Scorpion generator and a UPS, supplied by Emerson, the power system has been installed inside the building to protect vital equipment against power outages including computers, workstations and the companyโs security office.
Part of a revamp of the companyโs power protection system, which included replacing GMAC CFโs aging generator with a state-of-the-art Scorpion 500kVA diesel generator and supplying a UPS, Emerson Network Power also undertook electrical work. This included installing the UPS into the basement of the building and re-cabling GMAC CFโs communications critical distribution board feeding the computer rooms.
The Scorpion diesel generator has been installed in a bund to retain any diesel spillage and is fitted with a number of features to ensure that the generator is always ready for use, the firm reports. These include a heater to aid cold starting, a fire sensor and automatic shutdown system and a remote monitoring panel for generator checking. A weekly auto-test function mechanically fires up the generator to make certain that it will respond promptly when required.
The standby power system installed at GMAC CF provides power to the building and UPS as if the mains power has been restored. The UPS โthinksโ the mains power has returned and continues to supply the critical loads and recharges its batteries. Once the mains power is restored a short time is given (typically 30 seconds to one minute) to ensure that the mains is stable. The whole process is then reversed with the UPS covering the โgapโ when the AMF panel changes over from the generator to the restored mains supply.
