The National Security Council in Accra, Ghana have selected six JVC VR-616E 16 channel hard disk digital video recorders (DVRs) controlled by JVC’s system controller GSC-2000J.
The installation was designed and installed by G1 / Pro Security and is to be completed in May 2005. The system is designed for future expansion where more of the manufacturer’s DVRs can be added.
Greg Gregoriou, Senior Sales Manager at the UK office of JVC says: “JVC introduced the 16-channel digital hard disk recorder as part of a family of recorders into the market in 2004 to provide customers with real-time recording and display of reliable, high level surveillance images. G1 / Pro Security are a very innovative company who are very well established in the African and Middle Eastern markets. We are delighted to be involved in such an exciting installation. The installation of the DVRs is an major breakthrough for us.”
The recorders are installed in separate monitoring locations around Accra and operated from the national security control centre. The DVRs are remotely controlled using a microwave link via RS485. Images are viewed using a remote matrix on JVC 15-inch professional LCD monitors, model LM-15G.
Martin Parry, Director of G1 / Pro Security says: “A key requirement was the need to monitor and record images using a microwave link and we chose the JVC DVRs because they produce and store very high quality pictures. We have trained the operators in Ghana on how to use the DVRs and have found the systems very easy to install, manage and configure. JVC is a reputable
manufacturer and is known for reliability in products. We have a good relationship with them."
About the product
The VR-616E DVR records images at a speed of 50 frames per second in Wavelet compression, which produce relatively small file sizes for maximum storage, according to the makers. It features an inbuilt 240GB hard disk drive. A jog/shuttle function enables the unit to locate events and facilities and the unit is also equipped with digital audio recording, playback, digital zoom functionality, infrared (IR) remote controller and the ability to export images to a removable media device. Still images can be captured and stored via USB. JVC was also involved with G1/Pro Security in 2002 with the installation of a two command wall projection system incorporating the JVC DLA-SX21 projector and CinePro rear projection screens in the National monitoring centre.
