A new film which shows how plain clothes officers are helping to reduce robbery and mobile phone theft across the West Midlands.
The film, now available to view on the West Midlands Police force’s online TV channel PCTV, was filmed by Coventry police at a recent concert at the Ricoh Arena.
As well as advice on how people can take precautions to prevent becoming a victim of robbery or theft, the film shows plain clothed officers mingling with the 38,000 music fans who attended May’s Kings of Leon gig and arresting a suspected thief.
The film is released as the force targets robbers ahead of an anticipated seasonal rise in this crime type.
Codenamed operation Serve and Protect, the operation looks to target robbers and keep crime down. Since its launch on July 4, 50 people across the West Midlands have been arrested for robbery.
Assistant Chief Constable Sharon Rowe, who is leading the operation, said: "Robbery is a terrifying crime which leaves victims with lasting fears. The public tell us time and time again we should do all that we can to reduce this type of crime.
"This film demonstrates just some of the ways our officers are keeping the public safe and what locals can do to reduce their chances of becoming a victim of crime."
