Golf Watchers

by Msecadm4921

You’ve heard of business watch, neighbourhood watch; now there’s Golfwatch; in Hertfordshire.

It’s a new initiative which has been set up by the Rickmansworth Safer Neighbourhoods Team, Neighbourhood Watch and two golf clubs in the area.

It was launched in January, to encourage more businesses and leisure centres to participate in Neighbourhood Watch. The launch took place at Moor Park Golf Club and was also attended by representatives from Sandy Lodge Golf Club.

The golf clubs and businesses who participate will also be included on the OWL ( Online Watch Link) IT system which provides messaging services between the golf clubs, their respective members and the police.

Golfwatch was introduced following a reports of thefts from cars parked at the clubs, although this has now decreased.

Police Community Support Officer Stephen Nappin, who helped to organise the meeting, said: “This is an extremely useful initiative which will help us to build even stronger relationships with the golf clubs and prevent crime. Eventually we would like this extended to all six of the golf clubs in Three Rivers and to extend it further to cover those in the neighbouring areas of Watford and Northwood.”

Malcolm Adcock, Watch Liaison officer for Three Rivers, said: “ I am delighted that we are welcoming more businesses and members to participate in the Neighbourhood Watch Scheme. It plays a key role in the prevention and detection of crime and we are hoping to build on the already excellent relationships we have within our community to help keep crime low in Three Rivers.
