A new hard disk video recorder from Sony can record many weeks? worth of digital images – with the benefits of simultaneous record/playback capability plus remote control over standard networks to deliver ?any time, any place? control and sharing of time lapse video images. The Sony HSR-X200P exceeds the picture quality, convenience and reliability of analogue VCRs in time lapse recording applications of all kinds, ranging from CCTV security and surveillance of warehouses, public areas and retail spaces including banks and casinos to factory process inspection, the manufacturer says. The one-channel recorder uses M-JPEG compression with a high refresh rate up to a maximum of 50 fields per second. Picture quality can be selected from five levels, providing a horizontal resolution of more than 500 TV lines in ?Hyper? mode. The one-channel recorder can record without interruption for 565 hours (at 1 fps in ?high? resolution mode), making it suitable for unattended monitoring of a scene over a number of days. At lower frame rates, recording times can be pushed to 20,000 hours. The recorder?s 80Gb hard disk storage capacity can be doubled with the addition of an optional second drive to boost recording times further still.
