Hospital PFI

by Msecadm4921

ADT has been awarded the £2.2m contract to install a fire detection system at Derby’s new Hospital.

ADT’s work at the new hospital facility will begin at once as the phased development of the hospital gets underway. It will involve the supply and installation of a networked digital fire alarm system. This will comprise 29 fire alarm panels, six graphical front ends and 12,000 sensor devices.

What they say

Neill Shirley, Systems Sales Manager for ADT, said: "ADT is very proud to have won this prestigious contract. It is one of the largest contracts of its type to be placed within the East Midlands region in recent years and we look forward to the challenges it will bring. The project is a phased handover, which will require us to work to tight deadlines to complete each part as required. We feel ADT is well-placed to provide both installation and maintenance support on an on-going basis. The 65 fully trained engineers involved in the installation will also be independently audited to existing BAFE SP203 (British Approval for Fire Equipment) standards in all aspects of design, installation and maintenance. In addition to this, we have a 120-strong team available locally for support." The hospital development project, including ADT’s fire detection system, will be funded as part of the Government’s Private Finance Initiative (PFI). The hospital will be designed and built by the contractor Skanska and will then be maintained for the Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust over a 35-year period. Trevor Lowerson, Operations Manager for Skanska said: "It is essential for hospitals to have the highest standards of fire protection, as many of the people in their care could have difficulties in evacuating the building in an emergency. It was therefore very important for Skanska to supplement its building expertise with a high-tech fire detection system to ensure the highest protection for patients, visitors and staff; and ADT can deliver exactly what we need."
