All the external turnstiles for the 2008 Conservative Party Conference at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham (ICC) were supplied by south Wales based Miras Security Solutions.
West Midlands Police required contractors who could think and plan ‘outside-the-box’, to secure the entire area with minimum disruption to the city’s day-to-day. Miras and the perimeter fencing contractor, Road Traffic Solutions Ltd, embarked on several lengthy site meetings and many inter-group communications so that the more than three kilometres of fencing and the 14 full height external turnstiles were delivered, off-loaded, installed, commissioned and tested in time. Likewise, the dismantling and removal of all this equipment from site was overnight, so that local residents, businesses and authorities were not affected.
Secured were the entire perimeter of the ICC, The Hyatt Hotel, and the adjacent car parks working throughout the night to strict timescales and budgets. The 14 external turnstiles were mounted on custom-built floor plates, and able to cope with the high volume of Tory Party member’s pedestrian traffic flow throughout the four-day event. A spokesman for West Midlands Police praised Miras Security Solutions and Road Traffic Solutions for a faultless exercise and planning and co-operation with all the other contractor groups.
