Infosec Webinar

by Msecadm4921

One of the biggest problems facing organisations and individuals is a lack of information security awareness. People either not knowing about, ignoring or circumventing security processes and technical countermeasures.

So says the Information Security Awareness Forum (ISAF), running an online seminar – a webinar – on Monday afternoon, April 21. It’s described as a cross industry initiative dedicated to improving information security awareness by pooling expertise and resources.

Among the issues: the security issues associated with the techno-generation in your workplace – workers used to gadgets, and social networking websites, but do they bring information risks, such as loss of data?

Taking part are ISAF chair Dr David King, setting out the forum; Louis Gamon, regional director EMEA of the Information Systems Security Association (www.issa-uk.org); John Colley, Managing Director for EMEA of infosec body (ISC)2 (www.isc2.org); Tony Neate, MD of Get Safe Online (www.getsafeonline.org); Martin Smith MBE, chairman of the Security Awareness Special Interest Group (www.thesasig.com); Dr. John A Mitchell, Membership Director and CISA Co-ordinator at the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA, www.isaca-london.org); Peter Wenham, an IT audit and information security man who leads the fraud and security forum at the CMA (Communications Management Association, www.thecma.com); and Mark Chaplin
Senior Research Consultant at the ISF (Information Security Forum, www.securityforum.org)

The aim – so the ISAF launch event heard, at the British Computer Society in February – is not to create new information security awareness material, but to coordinate the efforts of its member organisations in order to reduce overlap and identify gaps for member organisations to fill. David King, ISAF chairman, said at the launch that the main issues facing companies were data leakage and fraud and while not all aspects are attributable to IT and information security (IS), it’s the underlying cause.
