Irish Counter

CEM Systems, part of Tyco Fire & Security’s Access Control and Video Systems business unit, has won the contract to supply its PedMon (people counting) system for Dun Laoghaire Harbour, near Dublin.

Belfast-based CEM reports that PedMon is a people counting system that counts and monitors human traffic flow (In and Out) in real time using sensors and system control software. The system will be used to assess pedestrian traffic flow and occupancy on the East Pier.
Michael Hanahoe, Chief Executive of the Dun Laoghaire Harbour Company, says: “The East Pier in the Harbour is generally regarded as the most walked walk in Ireland. Accurately measuring the number of Harbour users will help us plan for the provision of services that enhance visitor enjoyment of our wonderful, historic Harbour.”

Two Pedmon units will be erected on the Pier using customised enclosures to stretch the width of the East Pier.  Using wireless connectivity the PedMon sensors will communicate captured data back to a standard PC at the Harbour office.
Richard Fulton, General Manager at CEM Systems, says: “CEM is delighted to be supplying its PedMon system to Dun Laoghaire harbour. PedMon offers users the ability to improve their processes or services by measuring pedestrian flows. The harbour authority will be able to use PedMon to help with future planning of services by accurately monitoring and predicting pedestrian flow especially at peak holiday periods.”

The introduction of the system to Dun Laoghaire harbour will coincide with the completion of a 3m Euro renovation project to the East Pier.
