ISACA, the US-based association in IT governance, control, security and assurance, has its 40th anniversary in 2009.
“In today’s volatile marketplace, it truly is an accomplishment not only to reach 40 years, but also to embark on this anniversary year in strong financial shape,” said ISACA International President Lynn Lawton, CISA, FBCS CITP, FCA, FIIA. “Our field has transformed significantly in the past 40 years. We have witnessed amazing new technologies, and the rate of change has increased dramatically. This makes the global interaction, education, publications, research, certifications, standards and other developments from ISACA and its affiliate, the IT Governance Institute (ITGI), more important than ever to professionals and the enterprises for which they work.”
ISACA develops international information systems auditing and control standards and publishes guidance. More than 60,000 have earned the Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) designation in its 30 years. The Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) designation is six years old, and has certified more than 10,000 professionals. ISACA’s newest credential, Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT), was introduced in 2007.
Through ITGI, ISACA also founded and updates the guidance contained in Control Objectives for Information and Related Technology (COBIT), Val IT and the IT risk framework in development.
Founded in 1969 as the EDP Auditors Association, the organisation’s name was changed to Information Systems Audit and Control Association in1994, which was then shortened to ISACA in 2006. ISACA has more than 180 chapters worldwide.
