JVC In Hull

by Msecadm4921

Hull has a new CCTV city-centre monitoring system.

Hull has a new CCTV city-centre monitoring system. It cost about œ1.2 million and covers the city centre, surface car parks, Hull?s three multi-storey car parks and areas used by shoppers and workers in the Humberside city. The proverbial jewel in the Hull CCTV crown is the monitoring centre housed in a secure location owned by the local authority. Ron Johnson , MD of installers Videcom Security, said: ?They have a 17 metre CCTV monitor wall which is one of the most impressive banks I have seen for some time.? The Essex-based firm won the Hull contract in the face of stiff opposition and used ten giant 29-inch JVC colour monitors and 17 high resolution 21-inch monitors in the wall which can comfortably accommodate up to eight operators at any one time. He added: ?Although the station is monitored solely by council security teams, the local police do have access to the pictures and there is close co-operation between the traders, council and the law enforcement agencies.? David Chandler is the Hull city council engineer charged with running the CCTV project, along with consultants WS Atkins. He says the council came in for some flak when outsiders thought the project was not on target: ?But when we released pictures of the superb monitoring station we silenced those critics. They could then see that the investment made by the council was money well spent.? Hull suffers the same problems of city centre vandalism, theft and public disorder as any other similarly sized city. Particular attention has been paid to protecting the surface and multi storey car parks in the city centre with dozens of cameras covering every floor and all entrances and exits. Bill Mead, Videcom General Manager, said: ?They are going to stamp out car crime in Hull in one fell swoop and no mistake.? Yash Patel, CCTV Division Director of JVC, commented: ?A super job has been done on the whole system and the monitoring station in particular. It really is an impressive sight to walk in and see 17 metres of full colour JVC screens.?
