Kent Check

by Msecadm4921

As part of Operation Scallywag, a system wireless camera system equipped with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) was used in Kent to automatically check vehicles.

Andy Blackmore, Kent Police Crime Reduction Officer, says: ?Operation Scallywag has proved a big success, with initial results including two arrests for drug offences, one arrest for immigration offences, an arrest for driving whilst disqualified and a car being impounded. This wouldn’t have been possible without the Swift ANPR camera system.? Swift, developed by Petards Vision, is a wireless CCTV system with the option of ANPR. Kent officers positioned an ANPR equipped Swift on a bridge, allowing registration numbers to be checked against national and local police records plus vehicle licensing databases, automatically alerting the officers to any ?rogue? vehicles. Such vehicles were pulled over for questioning. The GSM equipped Swift also transmitted real-time footage from the operation to the central control room at the West Kent Police Station. Other agencies involved included the Department of Immigration, Department of Transport, DVLA, and HM Customs and Excise. Mike Williams, Managing Director of Petards Vision says: ?We are pleased to have been part of a successful multi-agency operation with Swift an essential element. The ability of the Swift cameras to link to a wide range of equipment provides police and security forces with a flexible, easily deployable system that lends itself to complex operations such as this.” Visit www.screenplc/petv.com
