In Burnley, the town?s CCTV system has seen a œ400,000 upgrade. The 108-camera system covers also nearby Rosendale, Pendle and Nelson. Technology Solutions have installed dome cameras with a 256 x 32 matrix from Vicon Industries. The installation has BT fibre optic links and covers main roads, housing estates and car parks, and focuses on hot-spots which have featured in rioting in the summer. Vicon?s V1466 matrix offers a maximum capacity of 256 camera inputs and 32 monitor outputs; in Burnley it is being used with 128 monitoring positions and 32 outputs. Pictures are monitored from a newly-built control room erected by Gorman Grants. Recent footage has included a rioter taking a hatchet to a piece of cabling during unrest in the area. Simon Davies of the Vicon Field Support Team comments: ?The matrix has been programmed to run in constantly moving sequences with special attention being paid to known trouble areas.?
