Legal briefing – free Midlands event September 16, 2009

Birmingham law firm Shakespeare Putsman are running a breakfast seminar covering four topical legal issues, the implications for your business, and what you can do to protect and grow your business. The event is free of charge and will be held at the firm’s offices in central Birmingham with registration and breakfast from 8am. The event will conclude at 10.45am.

Topics covered include:

Software as a Service
Software as a Service has suddenly become a viable alternative to the traditional model of software purchase with strong benefits around cost and convenience. Andrew Hartshorn, partner in the technology team will look at the benefits and risks of Software as a Service and suggest some key pointers for businesses considering going down this route.

Intellectual Property Update
The protection and exploitation of the Intellectual Property of a business is more important than ever in the current economic climate. Nick Briggs, partner, will look at the current trends in intellectual property and provide some useful guidance on how to ensure you are maximising your return on your IP investment.

Insolvency
Robin Koolhoven, partner, will provide guidance on two very timely issues: how to protect your own business against the potential insolvency of customers or suppliers; and a reminder of directors’ duties and liabilities when faced with a business that is struggling.
Fund raising
With banks still reluctant to lend and credit hard to obtain, Shah Zaki, a partner with Orbis Partners LLA, will discuss opportunities for funding for businesses in the current climate.
