Crime figures are rising as a result of the recession. The LGA (Local Government Association) is therefore organising a one day conference on tackling crime in these difficult times. It’s on April 23 at its Smith Square offices in London SW1.
Speakers invited include Alan Campbell, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Crime Reduction at the Home Office; Julian Corner, Head of Crime Strategy, Home Office; and Stuart Douglas, Community Safety Manager, Sunderland City Council.

The event organisers say that wiith the tougher economic conditions set to continue, crime rates are likely to rise further, especially for acquisitive crimes. At the same time council and police budgets will be under greater pressure than in the last decade, making it more difficult for councils to meet their community safety targets.

This must attend one day conference will provide an opportunity to review what your authority can do to tackle crime during a recession by:

Exploring what impact recessions have on crime;
Analysing what is happening locally and predicting hotspots and trends in crime;
Learning about the key role of reducing repeat victimisation to beat acquisitive crime; and
Hearing what other local authorities and crime reduction partnerships are already doing.
Learning how to tackle robbery, burglary and youth crime.
Speakers at the conference will include senior representatives from within local government and government, as well as from other organisations.

Email [email protected]
