LGA Day

by Msecadm4921

Smith Square, London, SW1P 3HZ is the venue for a Local Government Association February 13 conference on the upcoming Policing and Crime Bill.

The government’s draft legislative programme published in May indicated there would be a Policing and Crime Bill included in the Queen’s Speech in December. The Bill was published on the 18 December and sets out provisions to improve police accountability (including a new duty on police authorities to take account of their residents views on policing), expand the statutory duty of CDRPs/CSPs to include reducing re-offending, tighten the regulations on lap dancing venues and the sale of alcohol, as well as improving the arrangements for the recovery of assets obtained through criminal means.

This must attend one-day event will provide an early and unique opportunity to:

Learn what has and what has not made it into the Bill and the specific measures included in it;
Hear how the proposals for improving police accountability will work in practice;
Consider the impact on crime and disorder/community safety partnerships and the way they work in the future;
Explore what the changes to regulations on the sale of alcohol and of lap dancing venues mean.
Speakers at the conference include:

Cllr Hazel Harding, Lancashire County Council; and Chair, LGA Safer Communities Board
Cllr Richard Kemp, Liverpool City Council; and Deputy Chair, LGA
Richard Clarke, The Police Reform Unit, Home Office
Bob Jones, Chairman, APA
Cllr Audrey Lewis, Cabinet member for Customers & Neighbourhoods; Chairman of Licensing, Westminster City Council.
