What the current financial crisis means for economic security, international peace and stability is the title of a speech by Nick Clegg MP, Leader of the Liberal Democrats.

Nick Clegg will outline the current threats posed to national and global security by the credit crunch and explain what the current financial turmoil will mean for international terrorism,
crime and conflict. Clegg will also outline the steps that policy makers will now need to take in order to restore economic stability for the sake of peace.
This event is part of a series of high-level security lectures from key policymakers who will be making major policy statements which will contribute to ipprโs Commission on National Security in the 21st Century. The Institute for Public Policy Research (ippr), al think tank, launched an all-party, independent Commission on National Security in the 21st Century in June 2008 with a lecture by the Rt Hon Gordon Brown MP (Prime Minister) looking at liberty and security.
The Commission is conducting a detailed assessment of the changing global security environment and the specific challenges and opportunities this poses for Britain and will produce an independently developed national security strategy for the United Kingdom, to be published in 2009. An interim report on its initial findings will be published in November 2008.
The Commission is co-chaired by Lord George Robertson (former Secretary of State for Defence and former Secretary General of NATO) and Lord Paddy Ashdown (former leader of the Liberal Democrats and former High Representative to Bosnia).
