Lloyd’s has recently seen a security upgrade in their building on Lime Street in London.
The insurance firm had installed Fastlane plus speedgates and Fastlane optical turnstiles, from Integrated Design Ltd (IDL). Established in 1688 in a coffee house, Lloyds is now the world’s best known insurance market, home to over 44 managing agents and 62 syndicates.
Lloyd’s reports that it takes security very seriously and keeps the issue under review; they required a solution that would provide a safe environment for staff and visitors with different solutions for different entrances.
Space was an underlying factor in choosing the right entrance control system so Lloyd’s wanted a system with a slim, compact footprint and design, while maintaining a high throughput and keeping with the existing aesthetics of the building.
They contacted Group 4 Security for advice, who recommended the Fastlane and Fastlane plus ranges from IDL. Fastlane is designed to provide effective security with the minimum impact on building design, according to the makers. Fastlane plus R400 MA speedgates, including two disabled width lanes to comply with the UK Disability and Discrimination Act (DDA), were installed at three entrances into the building; the other two entrances were protected by Fastlane Clearstyle optical turnstiles.

Fastlane plus uses optical technology to monitor the passage of every individual entering and leaving the reception area and the fast-acting barrier arms physically deter any unauthorised access. Fastlane Clearstyle has redefined the optical turnstile category, by providing the most discreet security possible and exceeding the most demanding architects’ design requirements. These, coupled with Group 4’s own barcode readers for visitors and proximity cards for staff mounted on the pedestals, helps security prevent unauthorised access attempts including tail-gating, time and attendance fraud, pass-back and unauthorised entry.
