A Managed Authentication Solution (MAS) to prevent network security breaches has been launched by network services company Telindus.
Businesses are increasingly investing in complex technologies, yet the majority of network security breaches continue to occur because of predictable, easily crackable and unchanging passwords, according to Telindus. The firm says that its pin-based identity solution solves the problem by giving each user a token that randomly generates a unique ID number to authenticate them every time they log on. For a monthly fee per user the service provides: administration of tokens; a service portal designed for HR/IT to add new users; 24×7 helpdesk to assist users stranded without their token; replacement tokens shipped to any location; a variety of tokens e.g. key ring, USB, credit card or software based
One of the biggest benefits can be seen, it is claimed, where tokens are combined with other security systems such as door access systems, as they can become the default mechanism for both physical and IT security, even for office based users.
What they say
"The biggest step a business can take to secure their network is to stop employees using static passwords," says Gary Walker, Solutions Manager, Telindus. "To protect the network, and the individual, organisations now require stronger end-user authentication with the means to handle a wide range of users. Planned legislation in the US will soon make tokens a requirement for all on-line banking, so usage is likely to spread fast."
