BT has a contract to provide police officers and staff at London’s Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) with new identity and access management services.

The deal, signed by BT Global Services and the Metropolitan Police Authority, will help the MPS further enhance the security of its buildings and computer systems. The Metropolitan Police Authority is the organisation which holds the MPS to account for the delivery of police services and performance in London and has oversight and management of the police budget and procurement. Catherine Crawford, MPA Chief Executive, said: “Through this contract, we aim to enhance security and risk management, as well as introduce more efficient IT processes and new ways of working at the Metropolitan Police.”

BT will integrate existing components into the identity and access management systems. Mike Blackburn, Director Central Government & Home Affairs, BT Global Services, said: “Integrated physical and IT security is becoming ever more important in today’s society. By converging both physical and logical security, organisations have the ability to tighten security, audit users for compliance and deliver operational efficiencies.”

BT Global Services’ Security Practice will work with the Metropolitan Police to roll-out the new systems. The Security Practice – which offers a range of consultancy and services in secure networking, business continuity, risk and compliance management and identity and access management – was recently named a “strong performer” in both of analyst firm Forrester’s IT Security and IT Risk Consulting categories.
