Metro Locks

by msecadm4921

The Nexus owned Tyne and Wear Metro is one of only two underground metro-type systems in the UK outside London. The Metro, which has station linking Newcastle and Sunderland city centres and the airport, opened in 1980, and opted for a Kaba 20 mechanical master key system for its security needs.

The bespoke Kaba 20 master key system installed is still very much in use. The Metro has a varied range of locking solutions in Kaba 20 including, entrance and exit doors, signal points, office and high voltage access, and the train controls on the metro cars.

Rob Helm of Nexus said: “We have been a user of Kaba systems for nearly thirty years and our infrastructure needs are very much dependent upon a reliable and adaptable system. We are pleased to say that Kaba has been the backbone of our network and has proved over the years to be very secure and reliable and is a system we would like to take with us over the next 30 years."

The lock firm also reports that after two years’ work and numerous installations, it has a new International Procurement Agreement with hotel chain Marriott International that will incorporate Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Asia Pacific until December 2011.

Under this agreement, SAFLOK and ILCO brands of electronic hotel locks are approved by Marriott.
