MK Dons, the League One football club in Milton Keynes, chose a network video monitoring system for their new stadium.
It enabled the Dons to meet UEFA standards for safety and security while retaining the flexibility to expand the system as the venue grows. Sue Dawson, Executive Director at MK Dons, said: “We selected Sony for its high quality, reliable and innovative network video monitoring solutions. We now have an easy to use and highly scalable system in place that we can rapidly expand when necessary.” Pete Winkelman, the music entrepreneur and Dons chairman, was keen to create a venue that would attract major events as well as host football. The venue was designed by architects HOK Sport – responsible for the celebrated Arsenal Emirates, Wembley Stadium and Sydney Games venues – who created a scalable stadium that could be expanded from 21,000 to 31,000 seats when required and will include a hotel, conference and banqueting rooms and an indoor arena of up to 5,000 capacity. To meet UEFA standards, the stadium also had to have the appropriate safety and security infrastructure to monitor and control crowds. Installed were 26 x SNC-RX550 and 4 x RZ25P network cameras – which can all be managed centrally via an IP network from a PC web browser.
