A town house in the market town of Sleaford, Lincs, has one of the UK?s first InHouse multi-media networking systems from Ortonics International, of Newbury. The home is equipped for voice and data transmission, internal voice and video transmission, and a security system. The owner, realising the building needed total rewiring, had the InHouse wiring installed at the same time. The result is a range of sockets in every room alongside the standard power sockets, backed by cabling to support residential and small office applications including CCTV monitoring. InHouse uses a central control cabinet at the hub of the communication system, which can be equipped with any number of modules, which in turn provide links to the audio, voice, data or video systems. In this Sleaford house that dates from 1840, installers Cable & Network Installations, also of Sleaford, placed the cabinet unobtrusively in a first floor landing cupboard, allowing for easy access for any alterations. The system gives flexibility in that the full range of computer, telephone and television services are accessible in every room, such as viewing of security or baby-monitoring CCTV cameras.
