Network In Nottingham

by Msecadm4921

Nottingham-based guarding firm Octavian Security managing director Sukhi Ghuman gave students and graduates advice on setting up their own business at a networking event designed to boost the city’s enterprise culture.

He sought to use the event to help change graduate perception of the security industry.

As a speaker at the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University ‘thirsty thursday’ event, held at one of Nottingham’s top restaurants, Sukhi joined other former Nottingham graduates to discuss their own success stories with current graduates and undergraduates. Sukhi explained how he himself went from law graduate to lawyer to running his own security business in a very short time.

He said: “Our industry is perceived to be an unattractive career option by graduates and I think that by portraying my own experiences and explaining the exciting roles that Octavian plays for leading broadcast companies, retailers and other blue chip organisations, this group of Nottingham students and graduates went away with an entirely different perspective of the industry. Hopefully they will now see that working in security, like all other industries, can be as rewarding or fruitless as people want to make it. I made it clear that the security industry is beginning to lead the way in employee development and also offers individuals the opportunity to work with as many different sectors as they desire; how many other careers can make that claim?”

The initiative was established in 2003 with the aim of inspiring students and graduates who were considering setting up a business. In addition to the main speakers, ‘thirsty thursday’ had lawyers, bankers and accountants on hand. It’s a free quaterly event for Nottingham students and graduates.
