The National Security Inspectorate (NSI) at stand H91 is adding to its certification services to include Environmental Management Systems (EMS) to ISO 14001. This is in addition to the Quality Management System certification to ISO 9000, already provided through its NACOSS and ISI schemes. International Standard 14001 specifies the requirements for organisations to address environmental issues through the allocation of resources, assignment of responsibilities, and ongoing evaluation of practices, procedures and processes. Environmental Management Systems have many similarities with Quality Management Systems, as illustrated by the comparison tables provided in the annexes to ISO 9001:2000. Ian Sanderson, NSI Director of Business Development, said: ?As concern grows for maintaining and improving the quality of the environment and protecting human health, organisations of all sizes are looking at the potential environmental impacts of their activities. This is obviously true for companies operating within the security industry and we see demand for EMS certification is now increasing within our various sectors, primarily from larger customers and end-users of our ISO 9000 approved companies. We view this new certification scheme as the first of many more additional services to be provided by the NSI to satisfy the requirements of our customers and to help them meet the demands that are increasingly being placed on the security industry.? Ian Sanderson is chairing an IFSEC seminar, Introduction and Implementation of EMS, on May 16.
