Olympic Learning

by Msecadm4921

E-learning and online training will play a vital role in security preparations for the Olympic Games and other major events, it is claimed.

Tens of thousands of people in Beijing and London will have to be trained in a range of security-related disciplines, and e-learning will play a vital role in this, say organisers of a forum in Berlin. Olympic security Chief Dr Peter Ryan is among invited speakers.

Dr Ryan, who is Chief Security Advisor to the International Olympic Committee and Doha Asian Games 2006 Organising Committee, has confirmed that he will deliver a presentation on Major Event Security, in a session exploring Security Awareness and Security Training in Civil Society in the E-Learning for Defence and Security Forum, in Berlin.

About the speaker

Dr Ryan was in overall command of the security operation for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and has since been the principal security advisor to the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. He has advised the IOC on security preparations for the Salt Lake Winter Olympics and is advising on the Turin 2006 and Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. He is also engaged in the security preparations for the Doha Asian Games in 2006.

Other speakers at E-Learning for Defence and Security include, Howard Schmidt, former Special Advisor on Cyberspace Security to President George W Bush; David Cooper, former Chief Procurement Advisor to NATO; and Jody Westby, Director of the Work IT Group.

Organisers add that the event over two days will focus on such issues as e-learning and security awareness, gaming and simulation, online training for resilience and recovery, developing and marketing e-learning to the military and security establishment and network-centric warfare and e-learning.
