The 2012 London Olympics are far from happening only in London. Preparations for a safe and secure Olympic Games are on track in Hertfordshire, for example, thanks to the ongoing work of the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Olympic Planning Team.
As the countdown approaches the one year mark to the start of the Games on July 27, the Planning Team are busy finalising their plans to deliver a smooth policing operation at the Lee Valley White Water Centre in Broxbourne. The venue will be hosting the Canoe Slalom between July 29 and August 2 next year. <br><br>Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Olympic Planning TeamThe Planning Team, who are based at Hertford Police Station, will be putting measures in place to ensure everyone can enjoy the five day event safely and that the Constabulary is still able to respond to incidents as normal.<br><br>The planning team are also working with partners, such as the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG), Broxbourne Borough Council and Hertfordshire County Council, to minimise disruption to local residents, commuters and businesses around the venue. <br><br>Superintendent Simon Hawkins of the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Olympic Planning Team said: โWe are well placed to deliver a safe and secure Games in Hertfordshire and we are excited to be part of this once in a lifetime event. As our residents will know, we are well experienced in planning for large scale events, and we have spent many years getting ready for the Games, so our policing operation can go smoothly in 2012.<br><br>โThanks to our close working with our partners weโre confident in delivering a successful security response to the Games as well as ensuring our first rate service to residents in Broxbourne and the rest of Hertfordshire remains the same.โ<br> <br>As part of the Planning Teamโs work in getting ready for the Games, they will be taking part in an exercise with colleagues from across the Constabulary, the Olympic venue and other partners later this year. This will test a range of processes and communications and will help identify and resolve any issues that may arise.<br><br>Superintendent Hawkins added: โThe planning weโre undertaking is essential and necessary in ensuring weโre ready for 2012 and that we, like our colleagues across the country, can effectively deliver a first class security operation for the Games.
