In the United States, Orbison Enterprises has picked a anti-counterfeiting and brand protection firm to protect the late musician Roy Orbison’s intellectual property from threats of unlicensed and counterfeit goods.
The on-product authentication was headed by Roy Orbison Jr. to preserve the integrity of Roy Orbison’s personal brand and to ensure the authenticity of Roy Orbison CDs and officially licensed merchandise.
“Like many respected brands, counterfeiters continue to exploit consumers who support and celebrate Roy Orbison’s significant impact on the music industry by purchasing Orbison Enterprises memorabilia. Through this program, we are making a strong effort to protect our license and prevent the overwhelming proliferation of brand infringements,” said Tanja Crouch, vice president of Orbison Enterprises. “We chose OpSec Security to support this effort based on their vast experience in successfully protecting licensed merchandise for some of the world’s largest and most notable brands.”
The US-based OpSec will deliver authentication that includes a holographic label with anti-counterfeiting features, allowing investigators, retailers and consumers to verify the authenticity of Roy Orbison branded consumer goods. These labels will be used on all Roy Orbison CDs and officially licensed merchandise.
“Orbison Enterprises celebrates a musician who is supported by a loyal fan base that deserves a guarantee that the products they buy are genuine goods,” said Tom Taylor, president of brand protection for OpSec Security. “We are proud to provide an anti-counterfeiting solution that enables fans to easily identify legitimate Roy Orbison merchandise from low quality fakes.”
This year marks what would have been Roy Orbison’s 75th birthday.
