Employers worried about the safety of staff working alone in the field can listen to their conversations in the event of an emergency, with the launch of the latest satellite-tracked panic alarm.
The new Guardian Ranger tracked alarm from leading GPS tracking company VeriLocation contains a built-in microphone.
It can be activated at any time by dialling the device and listening in.
While the Guardian Ranger is intended primarily as a personal safety device, it can also be used to track vehicles and assets, and costs £1 a day to run.
Andrew Overton is the MD of VeriLocation. He said: “When an employee presses the panic button in an emergency you will receive an urgent alert plus their current position. You can then phone their Guardian Ranger and listen to what is actually happening, before deciding what action to take.
“In everyday use the Guardian Ranger allows you to see exactly where your people are at any time through a normal internet browser.”
Andrew added: “If you have people frequently working away from the office, as an employer you have a duty of care. You are responsible for their well being while they are working. The Guardian Ranger is security for them and you.”
Any person, vehicle or asset carrying the Guardian Ranger can be located worldwide to within five metres.
The device is fitted with a normal SIM card. It uses GPS to fix its location, and the mobile phone data networks (such as GPRS) to communicate the position.
