A new point of sale security system which delivers real-time, colour digital pictures that can be accessed from anywhere is available from Geller Business Machines.
As an extension of Geller?s ECR and EPOS ranges, AlertCam can help to secure staff and stock as aids managers? business control in retail and hospitality environments, the makers say. AlertCam shows real time pictures from the point of sale alongside a corresponding record of audit roll transactions from the cash register system. It can be programmed to sound an alert and put up an on-screen message to alert management to any unusual activity at point of sale. This can cover voids, refunds or credit transactions or no payment being made for amounts rung up. Staff when having to handle a security incident cam make management aware of the situation without an audible alarm. This ECR link will verify staff serving and attendance records by synchronising images of staff logging on and off with entries on the till roll.

Several cameras can be stationed at points of sale, entrances, customer and/or staff areas, stock rooms, warehousing and car parks. All are then linked to a back office PC where thumbnail images from all the cameras can be viewed and recorded simultaneously. Any image can then be viewed individually or enlarged if required. Via a modem, pictures can be viewed at remote sites such as a head office, contracted security company or even from home. If required, using a laptop and the internet, AlertCam can relay real-time pictures to staff and management anywhere.

AlertCam also acts as a security monitoring system outside office hours. If an alarm is triggered appointed staff or a burglar alarm service can dial in and get an instant picture of what is happening on site. AlertCam will also store all images on hard disk for a pre-set period with a time and date display that can be replayed or transferred to video tape.
