Automatic gates to control vehicle access have been installed at the new divisional headquarters of Cumbria Police in Workington.
Supplied and installed by the Slough-based Atlas Group under a contract awarded by Thomas Armstrong (Construction), the two sliding gates are operated by rack and pinion automators. This type of automator is particularly effective at providing smooth linear motion, the manufacturer reports. Vehicle entry through one gate is controlled by a digital keypad and the other gate by control room personnel. Vehicle exit is controlled by underground loops and safety edges are also installed. Atlas Director Martin Sutcliffe said: ?The sliding gate is a very efficient and reliable method of controlling vehicle access, particularly for buildings where effective security is high on the list of priorities.?
