Policing Conferences

by Msecadm4921

March sees two conferences about private security and policing.

Reliance Security are running a half-day seminar on Wednesday, March 9, in London. This seminar will explore, say Reliance, the challenges and practical implications of the Government’s programme for modernising the police and the regulation of the security industry. Speakers at Deutsche Bank, 1 Great Winchester Street, London, EC2N include: Hazel Blears MP, Minister of State, Home Office, on Government priorities for policing over the next five years and touch on the implications of ‘the wider policing family’ concept. Chris Fox, President of ACPO, will introduce and open the seminar. Peter Hermitage, Chairman of the Security Industry Authority, will speak about the regulation of the industry and the opportunities this opens up for police-security industry collaboration. Rick Naylor, President of the Superintendent’s Association, will address the issue of the impact of the reforms on everyday policing at a divisional level. Greg Parston, Chief Executive of the Office of Public Management, will consider how the mixed economy policing model is likely to develop over the next few years.

Also promised are three practical examples of partnership working between the police, local authorities, security managers and the police, how they are set up and what they are achieving. Visit www.reliancesecurity.co.uk

Meanwhile, as reported in the January issue of Professional Security, the Perpetuity ‘future of policing: exploring the extended police family’ conference has police and private security speakers. Invited speakers include BSIA chief exec David Dickinson; SIA chairman Peter Hermitage; and Met Commissioner Sir Ian Blair.
