Devon Police who had been working with Exeter City Football Club in the build up to Wednesday night’s Carling Cup game between Premier League side Liverpool, and the Exeter League One hosts, reported that they were satisfied with events at the match which passed relatively peacefully.
Superintendent Chris Singer, police match commander said afterwards: โI was very happy overall with the behaviour of the fans, who complied with requests from my staff and club stewards. I know the home fans may not have got the result they wanted but I hope they had an enjoyable and safe evening.โ
There were three arrests in total โ two inside the ground for relatively minor offences โ one for being drunk and the other was an allegation of an assault. The arrest outside the ground was for drug offences. There were six ejections in total.
Superintendent Singer added: โThis was a lively but peaceful match that will be remembered for the right reasons. My staff had few problems to deal with and I want to thank the supporters for the part they played in what was an enjoyable evening of football. I now look forward to next weekโs match with Plymouth Argyle which should be a great game, also remembered for the right reasons."
