The public authorities behind the CCTV scheme in Witney in Oxfordshire have opted for a private fibre-optic network to distribute its 24 dome camera images. Chosen in preference to the usual BT option and ongoing rental revenue structure, Witney decided the additional private fibre capital cost of ล“75,000 was a good investment, which in about four years time would pay for itself. Designed to help prevent a variety of crime, and reduce the fear of crime, the entire scheme installed by national CCTV and access control installers, Quadrant Video Systems, was completed in 12 weeks. Bristol-based consultant for the scheme, Derek Maltby said: ?Quadrant was a great team player, displaying consummate project management skills within tight timescales, to provide an effective surveillance solution that included the installation of a complete fibre-optic video network.?

The Quadrant-designed and installed control room also exhibits some novel features, employing a Synectics Tesseract video matrix system and X250 keyboards, to switch and control any camera, to any spot, or video wall monitor. Providing ?global control? options and for ease of operational use, a Synectics Synergy 2 TFT touch-screen user interface is ergonomically angled at 45 degrees into the console worktop. Effectively blanking out pre-defined ?sensitive? areas of view from system operators, the provision of Synectics? proportional PRIVacy scene masking device, has also helped to assist the scheme?s compliance to the Human Rights and Data Protection Acts. Tony O?Brien, Quadrant?s Sales Director, said: ?Employing many novel ideas, Witney?s specification and design provides system operators with highly intuitive and effective surveillance control. Using Quadrant?s in-house team of project management, installation and commissioning engineers, the project was delivered on time, working to an extremely tight deadline, tangibly demonstrating Quadrant?s range of core skills.?
