The City of London Police has now taken sole responsibility for the protest in St Paul‚Äôs Churchyard, while the Metropolitan Police Service takes the lead for protests outside of the City, including Finsbury Square….
Both forces say that they will continue to work together, and will liaise with protesters, the cathedral and local businesses to provide an appropriate policing response.
City of London Police Assistant Commissioner Frank Armstrong said: “We have had a low-key policing response to this protest throughout, and our approach continues to be to remain impartial, maintain the peace and prevent crime.
“While we’ll now take sole responsibility for the St Paul’s protest, we’ll still be working very closely with the Metropolitan Police in the coming weeks. The two forces sit side-by-side and work closely together on many high-profile operations, and that will continue to be the case.”
Bristol and Edinburgh are among cities with their own similar tent gatherings in prominent public spaces.
