Police have shut down an illegal rave at a disused military building in Norfolk. Sound equipment and vinyl records used for the event were seized by officers at the scene in Eccles, near East Harling, in Breckland.
The unlicensed event was discovered by police on patrol in the early hours of this morning, Sunday 17 July. At that time an estimated 400 people were in attendance, with 150 vehicles parked nearby.
Notices ordering people off the privately-owned site by 9am were served by police but a core group of around 60 refused to leave.
Extra officers were drafted and in a carefully planned policing operation the rave, in a disused World War Two building on Quidenham Road, was closed down by 10am.
Superintendent Dave Marshall, who led the operation, said: "Today’s proactive police operation is in line with our firm stance to policing raves, which are potentially dangerous and cause unnecessary damage and disruption. This particular site was extremely dangerous and those attending were covered in acrid dust from the inside the dilapidated building."
The force said that this operation reaffirmed its strategy on these illegal events. All available means and legislation will be applied to prevent, disrupt and close raves with equipment being seized wherever possible, the force said.
