Manufacturers of camera remote control systems use different data protocols for controlling their devices, German manufacturer Heitel points out. This poses one of the main challenges for the new device generation of the Heitel Remote Adapter, the firm adds. With the CamTel frame transmission or the CamDisc frame storage system, different domes, or pan-and-tilt systems, can be remotely controlled via LAN, ISDN, PSTN and GSM connections. Depending on the camera system used, the Remote Adapter supports not only the basic functions such as panning and tilting, lens control and fixed positioning, but also remotely controls special functions such as privacy zones, camera tours or the setting of important camera parameters, the manufacturers say. There are two models of Heitel Remote Adapter. The device model, termed the PTZ Remote Adapter, is equipped with the camera remote control function for up to 10 cameras; the PTZ/R16 Remote Adapter model additionally provides 16 programmable relays. Cabinets can thereby be opened at the click of a mouse and headlights or acoustic alarms can be triggered from any distance. All functions are remotely controlled using the CamTel Windows software or CamControl 4 software. The screen can be individually and ergonomically designed using up to four various operating panels and freely definable menu texts, both of which allow the user to only see the functions really important for him. These settings are stored in a configuration file and can be individually determined for each remote adapter or picture transmitter – CamTel or CamDisc. When developing the Heitel Remote Adapter the firm reports it has made sure that new protocols can be added and that any changes to protocols can be installed via a remote connection without requiring any more devices or special knowledge.
