Since the new BS8418 standard – covering installation and remote monitoring of detector-activated CCTV systems – manufacturer Vision Systems reports what it calls a step change in the demand for remotely monitored CCTV.
The firm says that besides cost savings for end users replacing guards with remote CCTV, the BS8418 standard ensures consistent CCTV equipment and services, and police response to real threats. Insurance companies are increasing seeing the BS8418 as a standard for remotely monitored CCTV systems, and are regularly specifying compliance before issuing insurance, the company adds. Jeff Kitching, Sales Manager for the ADPRO range of remote video verification equipment, says: “Compared to last year, 70 per cent of our new customer enquiries are now quoting BS8418 compliance as mandatory. Interestingly these enquiries are coming from the full spectrum of the security market, from the installer, through to the end user, their consultant and insurance company. The standard is definitely gaining significant momentum in the UK.”
