The sixth International Disaster and Emergency Resilience (IDER) conference and exhibition is at the Fire Service College, at Moreton in Marsh, on November 9 and 10.
At this annual show, following keynote presentations, the conference will cover such topics as: the immediate and long-term response to the December 2004 Asian tsunami; case studies presented by those involved directly in recent natural, accidental and terrorist disasters; the military’s role in resilience; training and simulation; planning for pandemics; the role of multi-nationals and NGOs (non-governmental organisations) in disaster relief; preparedness for maritime and CBRN terrorism; leadership and command in emergency situations; and warning and informing.
Tony Moore of The Resilience Centre, Shrivenham (IDER 2005 Chairman) and his committee will have the conference programme ready by August. Organisers add that the Institute of Civil Defence and Disaster Studies and the European Training & Simulation Association, part of the International Training and Simulation Alliance worldwide network, support IDER 2005 and the European Commission, United Nations (Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs) and other multinational organisations will be represented at IDER 2005, as in previous years. Organisers say that IDER has explored the role of the media during disasters, training for preparedness, planning initiatives, disaster responder and emergency services interoperability and international standards and certification. Typically, IDER sees participants from over 30 countries in Europe, America, Asia, Africa and Australasia.
