RL CCTV Appeal

by Msecadm4921

Wakefield Police have appealed for the public’s help to identify eight men they would like to trace in relation to an outbreak of disorder at Featherstone Rover’s home game against Halifax on Thursday, June 17.

After the Northern Rail Cup semi-final at the Big Fellas Stadium there was an outbreak of disorder, inside and outside the ground.

A number of Halifax supporters entered the pitch after the final whistle, followed by a number of Featherstone Rovers fans. Disorder broke out which then spilled on to the car park and Station Lane, where the two groups confronted each other on opposite sides of the roads.

Police were called to the ground and quickly dispersed the two groups.

A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer. He has since been bailed pending further enquiries. No other complaints were received by officers, although it is understood a number of people may have been injured in the incident.

Inspector Lisa Kirkland, of Normanton and Featherstone Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "It is important to stress that this incident involved a small minority of those who attended the ground, and we are working both clubs to identify those responsible to ensure the vast majority of supporters can enjoy matches safely. We will not tolerate this type of trouble and will take action to combat it."

CCTV colour stills are on the West Yorkshire Police website. Anyone who recognises someone in the pictures or has any information regarding the incident is asked to contact Normanton and Featherstone Neighbourhood Policing Team on 01924 295454. or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
