Retail chain ASDA and Tayside Police today launched a campaign that aims to get alcohol awareness and personal safety messages across to people while they revel in the festive season.

Top tips for a safe party this Christmas are being carried upon 600,000 bottles of milk that will be distributed across the northeast of Scotland over the next six weeks as part of the joint campaign.

ASDA has joined forces with Tayside and Grampian police forces in the initiative that incorporates the Christmas and Hogmanay party season and involves ten stores in the area.

ASDA decided to launch the initiative after an approach from Grampian Police’s crime reduction unit for assistance in getting the responsible drinking message across. Sandy Taylor, Chilled Foods Manager, ASDA, Milton of Craigie, said: ‘‘This is an innovative way of getting the message across to many people and we were delighted to participate with Tayside and Grampian police. Milk is a great product to get the information in front of people as a vast majority of homes and workplaces have a bottle in the fridge.’’

This is thought to be the first time that UK police forces have worked in partnership with a supermarket in advertising a festive safety campaign.
