The threat from e-crime is here. It is real and it is already affecting business in Scotland today. So says the Scottish Business Crime Centre (SBCC) which launched the e-Crime Scotland website at a conference of the Scottish Financial Crime Group in Edinburgh.
SBCC chief Alan Dobie said: “e-Crime Scotland has been developed through the auspices of the Scottish Financial Crime Group and working with key partners in the Scottish Business Crime Centre, Scottish Law Enforcement, Scottish Government and the wider business community who are all committed to equipping Scottish businesses with the knowledge and tools to be aware, vigilant, informed and ultimately safe from the destructive effects of e-crime in all its forms.” Visit www.ecrimescotland.org.uk
More new pubs and clubs across Glasgow than ever before have received an award for their commitment to creating a safer environment for residents and visitors to the city.
A total of 85 of Glasgow’s venues have been presented with a ‘Best Bar None’ award at a ceremony in the City Chambers, including a record number of new applicants to the scheme, and amounting to over 400 awards for Glasgow pubs and clubs since its launch in 2005.
The Best Bar None awards scheme, now in its sixth year, awards drinking establishments which show a real commitment to reducing incidents of crime and curbing irresponsible drinks promotions which can lead to binge drinking and antisocial behaviour.
Among the overall winners at this year’s event were Waxy O’Connor’s, The Arches and The Gala Riverboat Casino who will automatically be entered into a Scotland-wide Best Bar None initiative co-ordinated by The Scottish Business Crime Centre.
The ‘Most Improved Venue’ award, sponsored by Glasgow Community and Safety Services, went to Play, The Sir John Stirling Maxwell came in as the ‘Best Newcomer’, and the ‘Most Outstanding Designated Premises Manager’ title was awarded to Gavin McGreish from Campus. Other successful venues were presented with bronze, silver or gold awards to recognise their hard work and determination in raising standards across the industry.
Phil Walker, managing director of Glasgow Community and Safety Services said “We are pleased to see so many licensees participating in the Best Bar None awards this year, demonstrating their commitment to crime prevention and community safety.
“Glasgow Community and Safety Services fully supports and encourages licensees to participate in this scheme, and I believe that by working together to raise standards across the industry, together we can make Glasgow an even safer place to be.”
Developed in partnership with Glasgow Community and Safety Services, Strathclyde Police, Scottish Late Night Operators Association (SLNO), Scottish Licensed Trade Association and Glasgow City Centre Alcohol Action Group – and sponsored by the world’s leading premium drinks manufacturer Diageo – Best Bar None recognises venues which can demonstrate a recognised standard of excellence on criteria such as prevention of crime and disorder; public safety; prevention of public nuisance; promotion of public health; and protection of children from harm – the five key principles of the new Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005.
Best Bar None was launched in Glasgow as a pilot scheme and is now being promoted nationally in most Scottish cities and towns,
