Shredding Day

by Msecadm4921

The second edition of the annual Information Destruction (ID) Conference and Exhibition, organised by the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) and its ID section, ran on June 8.

An exhibition, featuring three shredding vehicles, accompanied a conference on recent developments in the industry, including regulation surrounding data security, sustainability issues, marketing advice for companies and guidelines on keeping information secure in the corporate environment. Speakers included David Reynolds, Information Commissionerโ€™s Office Lead Policy Officer, John Sim, Regional Head of Corporate Security at HSBC, Martin Hutchins, Director of the Cambridge Professional Academy and David Cook, Managing Director of Arjowiggins Graphic.

During his opening speech, James Kelly, Chief Executive of the BSIA, presented Simply Shred with their BSIA certificate, officially welcoming them as the 40th member to join the Information Destruction section since its launch in 2001. โ€œThe BSIAโ€™s ID section has come a long way since its humble beginnings a decade ago. It has now grown to become one of the Associationโ€™s best represented sections, and awarding Simply Shred their membership certificate during the event seems very fitting.โ€ said James.

โ€œThis yearโ€™s edition of the event has proven more popular than ever, demonstrating the growing scope of this industry and the eagerness of all its key players to keep abreast of any developments in the sector, technology or the regulatory framework.โ€ added James.

Russell Harris, Chairman of the BSIAโ€™s Information Destruction section, said after: โ€œChanges in regulation, technological developments and sustainability issues are all having a significant impact on our industry, so now more than ever it is important for ID companies to get together and share best practice.โ€

โ€œWe are delighted that our event is proving so popular. The caliber of this yearโ€™s speakers and exhibitors was outstanding, and I am sure delegates will walk away from here having acquired good advice and information about the growing industry we operate in. I look forward to building upon the success of this event and, more broadly, of that of our ID section, with any future activity.โ€

The Information Destruction Exhibition and Conference at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham was sponsored by Global Recycling T/A Shred Tech UK, AXO Shredders and Vecoplan.
