A backlog of door staff applications has led to police and the Security Industry Authority agreeing to extend the Security Industry Authority deadline by two months.
Door staff in the North East region, which includes North Yorkshire, were told to get a licence before December 13. However, North Yorkshire Police say, given that many applications were then pending, the force and the SIA agreed to extend the deadline to February 7. That force adds that it will not prosecute anyone in the county for working as a door supervisor while waiting for their licence application to be processed. Assistant Chief Constable David Collins said: “This is a sensible and practical measure to give all parties concerned the opportunity to fulfil their legal obligations. However I would stress that this is only an interim agreement, and the requirement for all door staff to be licensed still remains.” In the two-month interim, all door staff must have a valid North Yorkshire door supervisors badge. The force was one of the more active in door training before SIA days. North Yorkshire Police are accredited by the British Institute of Innkeepers to hold the BII’s SIA-approved training course and exams for door staff.
