On February 28 the Chief Constable of Hampshire Constabulary, Paul Kernaghan, presented the Secured By Design award to the Chief Executive of Slough Estates, Derek Wilson. Hampshire Police, Slough Estates and their consultants, Symonds Group, formed a partnership two years ago when the development of the old DERA site at Farnborough was being considered. Slough Estates had plans to build a business park on the site which would offer 1.7m square feet of office space. The site now under construction includes an integrated CCTV system capable of monitoring occupier systems, provision of alarmed help points, 24-hour manned guarding and a business park security committee. The SBD award has been made with conditions that each unit is designed and built to the required standard so that the award is maintained for the whole park. This means that Slough Estates are able to use the SBD scheme as a marketing tool as well as raising the profile of the SBD Commercial award in Europe.
